Consultation has concluded
It is now time to review the Ōtorohanga District Liquor Control Bylaw 2007. This process requires Council to assess the performance of the bylaw and seek the views of the community and affected parties in order to consider it’s effectiveness.
While this is not a formal consultation, we are seeking the feedback of the community to help guide our process. There is a survey link at the bottom of this page where you can submit your feedback.
The conditions of the current bylaw remain almost unchanged from the original proposal in 2007, the details are set out below.
The area that the ban covers include:
- The townships of Kāwhia and Aotea
- All public places including roads, beaches and reserves
- All of the Kawhiaand Aotea peninsula west of a line that follows Aotea Rd, as shown on the attached map (can be found on the right hand side of this page under documents)
- The liquor control ban willapply at all times during the period commencing at 4.00 pm on 23 December and finishing at 4.00 pm on 6 January
- For those years when 6 January falls on a Friday, the period of the ban shall be extended to 4.00pm on Monday 9 January
- The liquor control bylaw will not apply to the consumption of liquor at licensed premises or their licensed outdoor areas, or to the carrying of unopened containers of liquor directly to or from a licensed premise or private residence within the liquor control area.
